Falmouth Hospital is Golden
Cape Cod Healthcare recently kicked off a summer-long celebration of the 50th birthday of Falmouth Hospital with an afternoon party for honored guests, physicians and employees.
The highlight of the event was a special announcement by Falmouth Hospital Auxiliary President Jim McGoldrick on behalf of the entire Auxiliary. The Auxiliary has generously pledged to raise $1 million towards the new $11.6 million Falmouth Hospital Emergency Department renovation and expansion project. The Falmouth Hospital Auxiliary has served the hospital for the last 50 years, and has again demonstrated their dedication, with this pledge.
Falmouth Hospital is a community hospital in every sense of the word. The idea for a hospital was conceived in 1959 by a group of residents and business owners who believed there should be a hospital to serve the Upper Cape community. The subsequent Falmouth Hospital Association grew to more than 2,600 residents who contributed nearly $1 million to move the project out of the planning stages. A groundbreaking for the new Falmouth Hospital was held in 1961 and the hospital opened in 1963.
Falmouth Hospital joined with Cape Cod Hospital and the Visiting Nurses Association in 1996 to form Cape Cod Healthcare.
“We are halfway to 100 years, and I am confident that Falmouth Hospital will continue to build on the solid foundation established in the last 50 years,” said Michael Lauf, President and CEO of Cape Cod Healthcare. “Falmouth Hospital is truly a community success story. It has survived and thrived for half a century through the vision, hard work and commitment of forward-thinking individuals and businesses. Their grit and determination built a true community gem and we are so proud that it is a member of Cape Cod Healthcare.”
