Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital Receive High Star Ratings from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
(Hyannis, MA, August 15, 2023) Cape Cod Hospital (CCH) recently received a 4-star rating and Falmouth Hospital (FH) recently received a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the health agency of the federal government. More than 4,600 hospitals nationwide were assessed by CMS to determine quality scores, with 3,076 receiving a star rating. CCH was among 803 hospitals and FH was among 483 hospitals in the U.S. to earn their respective ratings.
The CMS Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating system was created to help healthcare consumers choose the best hospital for their care. The overall star rating is based on how well a hospital performs compared to all hospitals across the country for different areas of quality. Hospitals report data to be considered in their rating to CMS through reporting programs relative to the quality measures.
The 2023 Overall Star Ratings system selects 46 of the hospital quality measures CMS publicly reports on Medicare.gov and divides them into five measure groups, each with an applied weighted percentage:
* Mortality (22%)
* Safety of Care (22%)
* Readmission (22%)
* Patient Experience (22%)
* Timely and Effective Care (12%)
“These CMS ratings reflect the continual commitment of our entire staff: physicians, nurses, technicians, quality control staff, environmental services and others to providing the highest quality, safest care for our patients on Cape Cod,” said Cape Cod Healthcare President and CEO, Michael K. Lauf.
