SCOUT^® Radar Localization System

Cape Cod Healthcare invested in the latest advances in surgical technology with the SAVI SCOUT^® Radar Localization System. Used in breast-sparing lumpectomies, this tool provides radar-guided assistance to breast surgeons, precisely marking breast tumors. And for patients, SCOUT eliminates the wait and discomfort involved in marking their breast the day of the surgery.

During typical breast-sparing surgery, a wire would be inserted in the breast as a marker to guide surgeons to the area of concern. This procedure would take place the same day as the surgery, with patients wearing the wire until their scheduled surgical appointment, an uncomfortable, additional procedure.

Rather than implanting a wire guide immediately before a lumpectomy or Hidden Scar surgery, a SCOUT reflector is placed in the target tissue up to 30 days prior. During surgery, the SCOUT guide accurately detects the location of the reflector – and the tumor. SCOUT uses non-radioactive, radar technology to provide real-time surgical guidance.

This technology enhances the surgeon’s precision, reduces the anxiety of patients who would otherwise have a wire implant the day of the surgery and allows lumpectomies to be scheduled earlier in the day, reducing patient wait time and discomfort.
