Childbirth & Parenting Classes and Support Groups

The Family Birthplace at Cape Cod Hospital offers a wide range of classes, events and support groups that will help you, your birth partner and even siblings-to-be prepare for childbirth and the care of your new baby.

Our classes and support groups include topics such as:

  • Third trimester pregnancy changes
  • Nutritional guidance
  • Breathing and relaxation techniques
  • Labor and delivery, including options available
  • Postpartum care
  • Breastfeeding
  • Newborn care, including feeding, bathing, diapering and more
  • Infant CPR
  • Social support for new mothers

While our specific course offerings vary based on attendance and instructor availability, please consider joining us for one of the below regularly scheduled groups. Space is limited and registration is preferred.

Classes

Birth & Beyond: A Family Experience

This is a SERIES of four classes intended before the birth of your baby for those 6 to 8 months pregnant. Expectant parents will learn about the labor and birth process, relaxation techniques, pain management, cesarean birth, breastfeeding and what to expect with immediate newborn care. Class will include a video tour of The Family Birthplace at Cape Cod Hospital and hospital orientation.

The Basics of Baby Care

Parents, grandparents and caregivers will learn the basics of newborn care including recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics. We will explore topics such as family adjustment and soothing techniques as well as bathing, swaddling, baby safety, sleep, normal newborn appearance and when to call the pediatrician.

Coping and Comfort

Explore alternative approaches to pain relief during labor. Learn and practice comfort techniques such as relaxation, breathing and massage.

Meet the Provider!

This session is an opportunity to ask questions about The Family Birthplace at Cape Cod Hospital. In addition to our Childbirth Educator, meet one of our delivering providers, dedicated to families in our care. Ask questions and enjoy this unique opportunity for insight of their in-depth knowledge and experience.

Labor Essentials

This is a one-time prenatal class for those unable to attend the series or if a “refresher” class is needed. Topics include the labor and birth process, hospital procedures, pain management options, cesarean birth, and the postpartum period.

Our New Baby (Virtual Course)

This class is for siblings welcoming a new baby into the family. We will explore feelings about becoming a big brother or sister. Age-appropriate discussion about the arrival of the baby including role-playing.

Support Groups

The Fourth Trimester Truth

This group features topics related to being a new mom and family adjusting to baby’s life outside the womb. Bring your baby to our weekly Postpartum Party! Ages newborn through pre-crawlers.

Cape Cod Hospital Breastfeeding Clinic

We offer hands on help to breastfeeding mothers, infant weight checks, answer breastfeeding questions and discuss breastfeeding topics at different stages of development. Bring baby hungry, ready to feed.
